What is the meaning of Bandwidth and Traffic and how to calculate it
Peace be upon you. You can find out the meaning of the term bandwidth from the infographic image above.
Bandwidth (bandwidth as a literal translation) in general is the difference between two frequencies, the first of which constitutes the beginning of the bandwidth and the second constitutes the end of the bandwidth, and it is measured in units of hertz or per second and written as Hz or 1/sec.
If you don’t understand the higher definition then no problem because it is generic.
The bandwidth in web hosting is the data transfer rate. This means the size of the site’s fake page (visited) multiplied by the number of visitors during a specified period of time and mostly within one month.
For example, a hosting company offers within its offers that the bandwidth is 500 MB. Someone bought this offer and made his website from one page, and this page has a size that it runs on the servers and computers of the hosting company because it contains texts, images, and perhaps videos as well, and it also contains codes.
For example, suppose that the size of this page is 100 kilobytes, and this page is visited by 3000 visitors during a month. This means that the amount of bandwidth consumed is 3000 * 100 kilobytes, which is equal to 300000 kilobytes, or approximately 300 megabytes.
Ok, what if the site contains many pages, the bandwidth consumed here is equal to the sum of each page size multiplied by the number of visitors to each page separately during a month.
Example: a website consisting of two pages, the first page with a size of 200 kilobytes, and the number of visitors during the month is 1000 visitors, and the second page is with a size of 100 kilobytes, and the number of visitors during the month is 200 visitors.
In this case the consumed bandwidth is 200 * 1000 + 100 * 200 = 2 MB + 0.20 MB = 2.2 MB
But: How do we know the page size? This is done by right-clicking somewhere on the page and choosing Save Page from the menu.
What is the meaning of Bandwidth and Traffic and how to calculate it
These are just examples. In fact, the bandwidth displayed in the hosting plans is greater than that and we used small numbers to facilitate explanation.
What does the amount of bandwidth consumed depends on?
It depends on the size of the Visitors page and on the number of visitors to the web page.
